There are five components to San Francisco Data School:
1. Data Education Roadmap
A step-by-step program that begins with context, then dives into working with data tools and performing analyses, and concludes with the sharing a data story.
2. Tools
Spreadsheet
We use Google Sheets as our spreadsheet software to build-out data education content.
Database and SQL
We use a PostgreSQL database, powered by Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS). This is where we store all our datasets for Looker (see below) to access.
Business Intelligence (BI) Software
We've partnered with Looker, and are thus able to offer all Premium Members access to our account. This unlocks the ability to interact with a world-class data platform: build reports, interactive visualizations, dashboards, and more.
3. Datasets
A work-in-progress, but we plan to host multiple datasets in our database for Premium Members to access. For instance: Marketing, Product, Customer Success, Sales, and a SaaS dataset.
4. Content
Our primary form of building content is in writing (fast iteration and easy to translate)
5. Slack Community
A medium for getting connected with others learning to work with data, and a place to ask questions and provide answers.
